Carols and Collaroy

A few days ago I decided I had had enough of the city centre, and moved to a hostel at a place about 20km north of the city, called Collaroy Beach. It is just a few bays south of Palm Beach, aka Summer Bay, where Home and Away is filmed. The area is quiet, lots of beautiful beach houses and surf shacks, and it was refreshing to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city for a while.
On Saturday night though, I met some friends in town and headed to The Domain, a park right next to the Botanical Gardens, to watch a live carol concert. It was a huge event with thousands of people sat on the grass in front of large stage, from which various Aussie celebs sang a range of carols and christmassy tunes. We took a bottle of wine and a picnic and enjoyed the festive atmosphere and the excellent fireworks at the end, which bode well for the fireworks on New Years Eve!
